Access Fixtures is introducing LED turtle friendly lights to protect sea turtle hatchlings. Also known as wildlife lights, the turtle friendly LED bollard lights use 7 watt amber LEDs that are visible to humans, but not to turtles.It is also known as led dimmable driver, LED daytime running lamps. The bollard lights are ideal for waterfront areas that are visible from the beach, including private properties, condos, country clubs and marinas. Furthermore, the LEDs are energy efficient, long-lasting, and require low maintenance.
"The demand for turtle-friendly lighting has increased now that many waterfront locations are requiring it," said Access Fixtures Sales Manager, Dan Rodriguez. When sea turtles are hatched, they instinctively move towards the moonlight reflecting off the ocean. Due to light pollution, sea turtles have been found wandering inland instead of out to sea. While turtles can see higher color temperatures used in fluorescent or incandescent light sources, they cannot see longer wavelengths like 590 nm used in amber LEDs.
The LED bollard lights are available in round or square, with the choice of standard reflector or type 5 glass. The amber LED light source is also available separately to replace lamps in existing fixtures. To withstand coastal climate conditions, the bollards have enhanced durable housings. Beyond turtle-friendly lighting, the LEDs have 80% energy savings compared to incandescent lamps and have an average life of 50,000 hours. The amber LED module can easily be switched for more typical color temperatures for use outside of turtle nesting season.

Shipments of LED light bulbs by Taiwanese makers will increase in 2013 amid growing popularity, according to a local market research company.
Taiwan-made LED light bulb shipments are expected to increase 20 percent from the 1.34 million units recorded in 2012, to 1.60 million this year, LEDinside said in a recent research note.
The note follows an earlier report that said Taiwan's listed LED companies had combined sales of NT$10.95 billion (US$365 million) in July, up 4.24 percent from the previous month and 24.9 percent from a year earlier.
As demand in the LED backlight market slides and LED lighting applications matures, Taiwanese LED manufacturers are increasing the proportion of their lighting products, mainly through adding orders from international makers or shipping to European and U.S. distributors to make up for the shortfall in capacity utilization, the report said.
